Based on a report from Celta’s city hall, La Liga announced Balaidos isn’t safe for spectators or players and postponed Sunday’s fixture between the Galician club and Real Madrid. The venue was hit by one of the storms to have touched down in northwestern Spain, which already caused Friday’s match involving Deportivo de La Coruna and Real Betis to be put off.
The report said the storm caused 20 square metres of Balaidos to become completely detached
According to Marca, Real Madrid proposed the game be moved to another venue or played in a partially closed Balaidos. But La Liga will instead propose possible dates for the encounter to be played while taking the opinions of clubs and television broadcasters into account.
In January, Celta Vigo knocked Real Madrid out of the Copa del Rey, defeating Los Blancos 4-3 on aggregate. It was the first time since 1941 that the Galician club eliminated the capital outfit from the tournament.
