Tello marks debut with goal

With 3 players from the Cantera, Tello and Cuenca playing out wide and Dos Santos sitting in front of defence, Tello, greatly assisted by Messi, got a subtle touch on the 9th minute to score his first official goal in the Spanish League.

Messi on target after a 3 matches drought

Messi was out of luck the whole match, missing 3 clear goal opportunities. His drought finally came to an end, helped by a formidable cross by Alves with 18 minutes remaining. It took Real Sociedad only 2 minutes to reply with goal from Vela to make it 2-1 with a quarter of an hour still left to play.

Nasty injury for Busquets

Sergio Busuets got injured after disputing a ball with a Real attacker on the edge of the box. Maybe the black cat running on the pitch earlier in the match brought bad fortune to the blaugrana midfielder. The picutres look worse than the acutal injury. Busquets could be fit for Wednesday’s clash against Valencia CF in the second leg of the Spanish Cup semi-final.

FC Barcelona make it to the Spanish Cup semi-final

FC Barcelona drew 2-2 against the defending Spanish Cup Champions Real Madrid  at Camp Nou last night. This was enough for Pep Guardiola’s side to progress to the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey, as they edged out the holders after winning in Bernabéu 1-2 last week (4-3 aggregate)

Barca went in 2-0 up at half-time thanks to goals from Pedro and a stunning goal from Dani Alves in the remaining minutes, but a second half fightback that produced goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema just fell short for Jose Mourinho‘s team.

Neither side could find the goal in the dying moments, and it ended all square on the night and 4-3 on aggregate to FC Barcelona, who will face Valencia FC or Levante in the semi-finals of the Spanish Cup

Real Madrid’s Sergio Ramos was sent off for a second yellow card and FC Barcelona lost Iniesta and Alexis Sanchez  on injury. Alexis will be out 1-2 weeks with shoulder injury, and Iniesta will be out 2-3 weeks with hamstring strain.

2010/2011 Champions League

Barcelona’s Leo Messi scored two late goals to put his team in control of their Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid.

The 2 goals came after Real Madrid’s Pepe was sent off in the 61st minute and boss Jose Mourinho was sent to the stands soon after for his protestations.

Afellay, who came on for the injured Pedro (stepped on by Marcello minutes before), sped down the right and played the ball into the area which Messi tapped in to beat Casillas. (1-0)

Real Madrid considered themselves to be still in the tie, despite conceding an away goal. But Leo Messi struck again with pure brilliance: Barça’s 10 picked up the ball from Sergio Busquets midway inside Real Madrid’s half, skipped past Lass Diarra, Raul Albiol and Marcelo before scoring his 52nd goal of the season (his 11th in 11 Champions League matches), and almost sending his team to the final in Wembley.

Real Madrid: Casillas; Arbeloa, Ramos, Albiol, Marcelo; Xabi Alonso, Pepe, Lass; Ozil (Adebayor, m. 46), Di María, Ronaldo

FC Barcelona: Valdés; Dani Alves; Piqué, Mascherano, Puyol; Xavi, Busquets, Keita; Pedro (Afellay, m. 71), Messi, Villa (Sergi Roberto, m. 90)

Goals: 0-1. M. 76. Messi. 0-2. M. 87. Messi
