Right before Leo Messi was given the FIFA Ballon d’or for the 3rd consecutive time, Pep Guardiola, FC Barcelona‘s head coach, was named “World Coach of the Year for Men’s Football”, ahead of Manchester United’s Alex Ferguson, and Real Madrid’s Jose Mourinho.

This is the first time the 40-year old coach won the award. Guardiola guided the Blaugrana to five trophies in 2011 including the 2010-2011 Champions League, the FIFA Club World Cup and a third consecutive Spanish La Liga title.
He dedicated the award to his assistant, Tito Vilanova, who underwent surgery last december, and who became famous for being poked in the eye by Jose Mourniho last August.
