FC Barcelona secured their third consecutive La Liga title with a 1-1 draw against Levante at the Estadio Ciudad de Valencia.
Real Madrid‘s 4-0 victory over Getafe on Tuesday ensured that Barcelona would need at least a point to secure their third consecutive La Liga title, and the defending champions did just enough to keep the trophy in Catalonia at the expense of their bitter rivals.
With one eye on the Champions League final against Manchester United, Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola left Andres Iniesta – celebrating his 27th birthday – and Pedro Rodriguez on the bench, whilst handing Eric Abidal a starting berth after his return from surgery on a liver tumour.
The Catalans started the match their typical fashion – controlling possession and keeping Levante pegged back inside their own half.
