Piqué and Puyol fit to play this weekend

Carles Puyol and Gerard Pique have returned to the Barcelona squad after injury in time for Saturday’s visit of Real Mallorca.
Pep Guardiola‘s side have had problems getting goals in their last two matches but have kept seven consecutive clean sheets in all competitions.

“Sometimes it could be a good thing to not be so precise in front of goal,” Guardiola said. “It may be good not to win by such huge margins because this confuses things. There is a tendency to think we will score lots of goals every game”.

FC Barcelona v Mallorca

Mallorca have scored on each of their last four visits to the Camp Nou in Primera, the only current side in Primera to be on such a run.

It is seven years since a side managed to score in their fifth consecutive trip to Barcelona’s ground in the top flight (Real Zaragoza, Sep 2004).

Mallorca have won three times at the Camp Nou since 2000 in the league, the joint-most of any side.
Barcelona have scored in their last 18 league meetings with the islanders.

The last time Messi, Villa and Pedro all scored in the same match in the league was at Mallorca in February.

All 10 of Lionel Messi’s league goals this season have come at the Camp Nou.

Last time out Barcelona scored their first goal of the season that wasn’t from open play or from inside the box (Xavi direct free kick).

In this match Barcelona could keep a ninth consecutive clean sheet at home in the league for only the second time in their history (last time was in 1986).

Mallorca have won only one of their last 17 away games in the league since the start of last November.

The islanders’ last clean sheet on the road in the league came in March 2010, a run of 27 games.

Slovenia coach quits after they failed to qualify for the Euro 2012 finals.

“The NZS (Slovene FA) and national team coach Matjaz Kek have reached an agreement to end cooperation by mutual consent and we thank him for what he has achieved during his spell in charge,” it said in a statement.

“There is no doubt that Kek did a good job and we wish him well in the future.”

Slovenia finished fourth in their Euro 2012 qualifying group behind Italy, Estonia — who clinched a playoff berth for the first time in the Baltic nation’s history — and fellow former Yugoslavs Serbia.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says “English dominance is over”

Arsene Wenger On Manchester United’s 3-3 draw with Basel at Old Trafford.

“Manchester United‘s draw against Basel surprised me enormously. That night I watched Bayern Munich versus Manchester City and was switching between results. It was 2-0 for Manchester United, then next time I looked it was 3-2 to Basel, which was extremely surprising”.

“There are no easy games for English clubs in the Champions League. The level is quite balanced in Europe now. The easy domination of Premier League clubs, even in the group stage, is over”.

“United have trouble because every year they are in the final, the semi-finals or the quarter-finals. They have problems being focused on the group stage because they are so used to going further than that. From time to time, you have some disappointments as they had against Basel“.

“I have to say Swiss football is in a very good state. They are always in the final stages of youth tournaments, and when you see their clubs they are all playing good football. From Zurich to Basel, I always see them playing very well.”

On Kaka’s brilliant performance for Real Madrid against Ajax.

“We have to confess that everyone said Kaka‘s time was over! It is like that nowadays; you are always judged on recent performances”.

“When somebody is injured for as long as he was, it is extremely difficult to get back to your highest level if you are not given enough time”.

“Last year I thought he had some encouraging performances at the end of the season – today I think he is really good”.

“Although he is not playing like he did at Milan, he is showing some good signs and is in shape. The final step for him is to play regularly”.

“The problem he has is that he is in a team where Mesut Ozil is hyper-strong and young, so it will be difficult to win a permanent place in the team”.

On Mario Gomez, who scored both goals for Bayern Munich against Manchester City.

“He is a difficult case for a manager because he is not really involved in the build-up – but when the ball comes into the area he becomes a lion. In a technically-skilled team that is often in the final third – as we saw against Manchester City – he becomes an essential player because he turns everything the other players create into gold. He fits well into Bayern‘s style of player – they have always had those kinds of players. He does not always impress everyone when he plays, but when we look at his stats it is impressive. You have to take your hat off to it – I think he has scored 49 goals in 51 games. Only Messi can get near to that performance”.

On Valencia goalkeeper Diego Alves’s performance against Chelsea.

“I didn’t know who he was, but the advantage for him is that today, when a player has an outstanding performance he is quickly in the limelight. A few years ago, you would have to play well for five years before people talked about you. However, the disadvantage is that we sometimes make players superstars too quickly and then they have too much pressure on them. Some players cannot live with that“.

Xavi on record appearance 392nd league match

At Barcelonas 1-0 win at Granada Xavi said “It was a difficult match that we were unable to kill off in the second half,” he said after scoring his fourth league goal of the campaign.

“Generally it was a good performance but everything can be improved on,” he added.

“We were not very quick in passing the ball around,” Barca coach Pep Guardiola said.

“When you are only 1-0 ahead anything can happen,” he added.

“Any lapse in concentration against such a speedy team can condemn you but we managed to close out the game.”

Andre Villas-Boas says Barca has it good now but…

Andre Villas-Boas says Barca has it good now but puts it down to the fact that their youth team came together with a manager who could do his job and doesn’t think it will continue forever.

“These past years of Barcelona’s success have collided with a multitude of events that has provided this team with the ability to play so well,” said Villas-Boas, who has already admitted Chelsea may need to beat the Spanish giants if they are to end wait for Champions League glory.

“The amount of talent which came through their youth teams which come together now in the first team, a manager that defends the club’s values like nobody else…

“These past four or five years of Barcelona will be, for sure, the exception. Eventually, there are years of better talent (elsewhere) and years of drought.”

Abidal wants two more seasons

Eric Abidal wants to stay at Barcelona for two more seasons and is meeting with the club on Thursday.

“I am feeling good, I want to play here at the world’s best club and it’s difficult to go to other teams,”

“The problem is not a financial one, rather the number of seasons,” he said. “We have the chat on Thursday and I will come away from it feeling very happy.”

The former AS Monaco, Lille and Lyon player has been linked in the media with a move to Qatar-owned Ligue 1 side Paris St Germain, who have spent millions of euros on players to try to win a first French league title since 1994.

FC Barcelona vs Racing Santander Saturday 15 October 2011

Hector Cuper: “Since I’ve been in the football world I’ve never seen anything like (Barcelona). It’s the best team in the world and a long way ahead of the others. I’ve always said that perfection does not exist, but this Barcelona team is the closest I’ve seen.”

Abidal joins injury list

Barcelona defender Eric Abidal damaged a hamstring in his right leg in his team’s win over Sporting Gijon and will be out of action for up to 10 days, the European champions said on Sunday.

The French international had to be substituted early in the second half of their 1-0 victory and is set to miss his country´s forthcoming Euro 2012 qualifiers against Albania and Bosnia.

Abidal joins Cesc Fabregas, who suffered a hamstring injury on Saturday, Andres Iniesta, Ibrahim Afellay and Alexis Sanchez in the Barca treatment room.

Jose Mourinho squad is low on morale and unity following a few below-par performances.

“We are all totally united, and the atmosphere is good even after a week which has been quite difficult,” Arbeloa told a news conference.

“Some of us players have come out and denied this talk of supposed divisions or a bad atmosphere, and I do so again.”

What About the outspoken Mourinho of damaging the club’s image with his behaviour?

“Everyone at the club is united, not just from yesterday, but they have been for a long time,” said assistant coach Aitor Karanka.

“We are all working in the same direction. The coach was the first to dismiss this talk of a crisis.”

Ajax coach Frank De Boer said he was especially looking forward to the clash given his background as a former Barcelona player.

“Madrid is a great team, and to win, we must do very well,” the Dutchman said. “Mourinho is a great coach (but) he has made mistakes, and he knows that.”

Cesc Fabregas is helping Xavi improve his game, the Barcelona FC and Spanish international has said.

Cesc Fabregas is helping Xavi improve his game, the Barcelona fc and Spanish international has said.

“We are very comfortable together on the pitch. I think we complement each other quite well,” Xavi told a news conference.

“If he goes forward I stay back and cover for him or vice versa. We have shown that many times this year. I think Cesc improves my football.”

Fabregas has made his mark at his rightful club, after eight years in the Premier League with Arsenal, scoring four league goals in four matches.

Spain shares the blame for friendly game against Chile on Friday

Coach Vicente del Bosque said about his Spanish team “The spectacle we made of ourselves at the end of the game was not gratifying,”

“I understand the anger and frustration of the Chilean team, although I am also aware that we share some of the blame,” the former Real Madrid player and coach told a news conference.

The Spanish players said the way they stood up for each other during the fight proved they were united and the rumour of the Barca players not getting on with Real Madrid players was swept aside.

Cruyff : ‘Mourinho’s finger is an act of helplessness and arrogance’

According to Cruyff, Jose Mourinho’s continuous provocations and attitude are a real problem for Real Madrid: “If you have a coach like him, who can’t stop creating trouble, how are you gonne behave? Mourinho’s attitude affects not only his reputation and his image as a sportsman but also that of his players” he pondered.

Recent Losses in Clasico’s has made Jose Mourinho lose the plot. “The problem is that he is now becoming obsessed with FC Barcelona and has gone beyond limits.” he said.

The former Dutch coach also slammed actual FC Barcelona president Sandro Rosell and its deal with Qatar Foundation :
“I see that the club’s obsession is not just to win trophies but also get a lot of money.”

Barca still the best team in the world !

Atletico Madrid has been the best team in the world in August, according to the classification drawn up by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) in a classification where the club is very strong in front of the classification.

The highest scores from around the world in the past month, reached Viktoria Plzen (48), Rennes (46), Bayern Munich (40), Botafogo (40) and BATE Borisov (39), but all were defeated in party competition and were discarded for selection as the best club in the world.

Behind the ship is still Real Madrid, now ahead of Manchester United, which has surpassed Porto, while Inter up from seventh to fifth.

Barca, without defence to receive Villarreal

Puyol, Piqué, Adriano and Maxwell are injured, while Dani Alves must complete a one-match ban, which carries from the last match of the league last season. This makes it the right side where the main Problems will be.

For the rest of the defence, Pep has the options to place Javier Mascherano, Sergio Busquets and central or Fontàs Andreu. Eric Abidal occupy the left-back. Pep Guardiola said yesterday he hopes to have both Puyol soon as Maxwell, possibly after the international break, but first they must face the match against Villarreal.

La Liga – Strike action ended in Spain

The strike action that delayed the Spanish season’s start has now ended, and the weekend’s games will go ahead as planned.

The Spanish league (LFP) and the players’ union (AFE) have struck an agreement which means the season can start on Saturday.

A date has not yet been set for last week’s cancelled games to be played on.

The union demanded greater protection for players’ wages that have not been paid at clubs that have gone into financial administration.

The AFE says around 50 million euros ($72m) is owed to 200 footballers from the end of last season.

Barça will play against Villarreal at Camp Nou on August 29th. A chance to finally see Barça and Lionel Messi play football again 🙂

Barcelona could stand between AC Milan and Champions League glory

Coach Allegri insists the seven-times European Cup winners AC Milan will be ready for whoever they come out of the hat alongside in Thursday’s draw for the group stages of the Champions League in Monaco.

“I am convinced that, with a full squad, we are on a par with Real Madrid,” he stated. “The only exception is Barcelona“.

“Last season, we went out of the competition against Tottenham because of some bad luck and several injuries.”

“I do not have to build a team, but I have to improve it. Milan are not perfect.

“Let me give you an example – when Barcelona lose the ball, they try to regain possession at a frenetic pace. That is one aspect we have to do better in.”

Fabregas “I needed fresh challenge”

He told Barca TV: “The easiest thing would have been to stay at Arsenal. I’m the captain, playing every game. We are always in the Champions League, always fighting for titles. For all that, and the tough competition here, perhaps now might be the worst time to return to Barca. It’s going to be really tough to make the starting XI, but I needed a new challenge in my life.”

He added: “I thought I’d stagnated a bit, and needed a change of scenery. I needed a special motivation to bring the best out of myself.”

“I think that Xavi still has some years left in him! He does things you wouldn’t believe!”

“I haven’t come to retire Xavi. I came here to play with Xavi, to compete with Xavi, and to win with Xavi. What I’m saying about Xavi also goes for Andres and Thiago. I think altogether we make a very good group. I know what we’ll do. With the great group we are, we’ll do great things together.”

“The last months I’ve been under a lot of pressure,” he admitted. “Mentally it’s really tiring, but it finally happened and I’m very happy to be back at Barca.”

“It is partly my fault that it has been so complicated, for having left. Not in my wildest dreams had I imagined that one day I would play for the Barca first team. Not as a child, nor playing with Arsenal had I thought I’d live a day like Monday.”

Gerard Pique has accused Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho of “wrecking Spanish football”

Lionel Messi scored to seal a 5-4 aggregate victory over Real in a encounter that saw red cards after a rough tackel caused everyone to boil over at the end, resulting in a fight in which Mourinho appeared to poke Barcelona assistant coach Tito Vilanova in the eye.

“Mourinho is wrecking Spanish football,” Pique said. “People are looking for culprits but they are in Madrid. Someone needs to get the video, analyse it and say who is to blame.”

“We hope that on Thursday everyone will be talking about a great game of football and not the melee,” added Pique.

“It isn’t the first time this has happened … it is always the same people. Someone needs to sort this out.”

In the post-match news conference, Mourinho accused Barca players of going to ground easily.

“Marcelo got a red card because we all know what happens after tackles in certain areas of the pitch,” the Portuguese said.

“It was a spectacular game from the first to last minute. But from the first minute of the second half, and I don’t criticise it because I know people do it, the ballboys hid the balls”. (Barca were winning 2-1 at this point).

“It happens with small teams when they find themselves in difficulties.”

When asked about the incident, Mourinho replied: “I have been polite and played like a man and not fallen to the ground at the first touch. I don’t know who Vilanova is.”

Barca coach Pep Guardiola said: “The images will speak for themselves. This is going to end up badly if it isn’t stopped soon.”

Javier Faus revealed the audit numbers: “Barcelona’s debt as of today is the biggest in the club’s history. That doesn’t mean anything but that we are not comfortable working with this debt. The current debt is the biggest in the club’s history, even greater than in 2003. The losses back in 2002-2003 in Gaspart’s era were the biggest in the club’s history at the time and on top of that the income that Barca has today is much bigger than back in 2002-2003. After explaining all this, I still prefer the club’s current picture.”

2011 season
Barcelona made a smaller loss than expected last season and are confident of returning to profit in the 2011-12 campaign after two years of deficits, vice-president for economic affairs Javier Faus has said.
La Liga – Barca report smaller loss

The Spanish and European champions posted a pre-tax loss of 9.3 million euros (£8.2m) in the year to the end of June, less than half the 21.4 million euros expected and down from 83 million euros in the year-earlier period, Faus said.

Winning the Champions League, the club’s new sponsorship deal with Qatar Foundation, a strong turnout at the Camp Nou stadium and a surge in visitors to the club’s museum had helped trim the deficit, he added.

“Our obligation is to make a profit from next season and we will do that,” he said. “For the first time in two years we will present a budget that foresees profit.”

Operating income rose to 473.4 million euros, an increase of 14 per cent compared with the 2009-10 season, while costs were up 10.4 per cent to 472.6 million euros, made higher by win bonuses to players following the club’s domestic and European successes.

Net debt fell to 363.7 million euros from 430.6 million.

Puyol nears full fitness

Puyol told the Barcelona FCs official website: “I’m feeling better every day, but the recovery is slow. Everything is going little by little.

“As Doctor Cugat(who operated on him) put it, I’m not in charge here, it’s the knee that is.

“I’ve got no problems with my knee any more, I don’t know how long I’ll be before I’m back, but I want it to be as soon as possible, when I am fully 100%.

“Everybody who knows me will understand that I am really keen to get back. I’ve been a long time with this injury –six and a half months. I am really keen to get back”.

Barca midfielder Afellay out for five weeks with injury

Barcelona midfielder Ibrahim Afellay has torn a muscle in his left thigh and will be out of action for up to five weeks, the European champions said on Sunday.

The Dutch international picked up the injury in Barca’s 2-1 friendly defeat to Manchester United in Washington DC on Saturday, but will stay with the team as they continue their pre-season tour of the United States.

Afellay will miss the La Liga curtain-raiser against Real Madrid when the league champions take on King’s Cup winners in the Spanish Super Cup on Aug 14 and 17.

Clubs ‘plan breakaway league’

Top clubs have threatened to break away from FIFA and UEFA and form their own super league unless their concerns over fixtures and finance are addressed.
The strained relationship between the governing bodies and the clubs was illustrated by a stinging attack on FIFA by Bayern Munich president Karl-Heinz Rummenigge on Wednesday, when he called for a “revolution” in football.

Rummenigge said: “Sepp Blatter is saying he is cleaning up the game, but the fact that no-one believes him, tells you everything you need to know. I’m not optimistic because they believe the system is working perfectly as it is. It is a money-machine.

“It is a nice game but it is decided by people who are corrupt. I am not ready to accept the system as it is and I am not alone.”

There is an increasing feeling that FIFA has lost authority, and that its leadership lacks both the will and the means to eliminate corruption.

An ECA board member told The Guardian: “The fact that Bayern Munich, who have always been close to the institutions, are being so vocal and loud about the situation is a clear sign we’re very close to breaking point.

“We have a memorandum of understanding with UEFA that expires in 2014. After that time we can no longer be forced to respect FIFA statutes or UEFA regulations. And we won’t be obliged to compete in their competitions.”

The ECA comprises all of Europe’s top clubs, including Barcelona, Real Madrid and AC Milan, plus the following Premier League clubs: Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Everton, Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Fulham.

FC Barcelona are almost as firmly rooted in Britain as Wembley rivals Manchester United.

FC Barcelona are almost as firmly rooted in Britain as Wembley rivals Manchester United.
It was a band of nomadic Brits who formed the nucleus of the Spanish giants way back in 1899, and today even their badge bears St George’s Cross.
In November 1899 the Brits responded to an advert in Barcelona newspaper Los Deportes.

Part of it read: “Our friend and companion Hans Gamper, former Swiss (football) champion, being keen on organising some football games in the city asks anyone who feels enthusiastic enough to present themselves at the office of this newspaper any Tuesday or Friday between nine and 11pm.”
Three Englishmen were among the prospective players who turned up – Walter Wild and brothers John and William Parsons. They were soon joined by countrymen Arthur and Ernest Witty.

Wild was duly elected as the first president of the newly formed “Football Club Barcelona”.
FC Barcelona expert Simon Harris, author of Going Native In Catalonia, explains: “In the early days, the club was made up of mainly foreigners.

“Of major significance are Ernest and Arthur Witty. They quickly emerged as skilful players, making sure Barca consistently beat local rivals FC Catala.

“This success, combined with the fact that the club bore the name of its home city, laid the foundations of FCB as the sporting representative of the Catalan nation.”

Arthur Witty’s grandson Michael, 74, remains a Barcelona resident and remembers his grandfather with affection and admiration.

The retired business consultant says: “He was a strong, bulky man who used to weigh around 15st.

“He adored football. He and his brother Ernest said they got bored with the only other sport that existed at the time – drinking gin – and would challenge each other to running races.

“Finally they joined the team organised by their great friends Hans Gamper and John and William Parsons and set about building the club.

“My grandfather had some golden rules dictating how the game should be played. He always said that fair play was paramount.”

Arthur was rewarded with the presidency of FC Barcelona in 1903, when the team included another Englishman, Stanley Harris.

He was also responsible for importing from England the first regulation-size balls and introducing goal nets to the club.

During his period in charge he promoted a series of local youngsters to the first team – including Comamala, Hornos, Quirante and Soler, who became the side’s first local heroes.

They are the players whose boots are now filled by the likes of Puyol, Busquets and Iniesta. The team also played their first international matches during Arthur’s presidency.

According to Simon Harris, the Witty brothers’ British schooling had a huge influence on the club.

He explains: “Arthur, a forward, and his brother Ernest, a defender, had been pupils at Merchant Taylors’ school, in Crosby, on Merseyside.

“It can’t be coincidence that Barça play in the same colours as Merchant Taylors’, blue and crimson.”

Those colours – known in Spain as Blaugrana – are now synonymous with Barca.

Michaela Riches, spokesperson for the school, says the current pupils are immensely proud of their links with the Witty brothers and Barcelona FC.

She says: “The story goes that Arthur scored an early winning goal for Barcelona wearing the rugby kit he used to wear here. There are various stories about how the famous Barcelona kit colours were adopted but this does seem logical.

“What is certain is that there are a growing number of Barcelona fans among our current pupils and they will all be cheering on their old school team this weekend.”

Michael will also be willing his grandfather’s club to win.

He says: “When I was at school in England my grandfather would always send me newspaper clippings showing the Barcelona results underlined.

“He would love the current team, he was very keen on home-grown players and he would be so proud of the fact that eight of the Barca team were brought up here.” The English influence at the club grew in 1917 when Barca’s first full-time manager was appointed.

He was Jack Greenwell, who had played non-league football in England for his home town team Crook Town, in Co Durham.

He quit in 1923 but was so well regarded he was brought back again as manager in 1931.

He succeeded former Burnley player Jim Bellamy – and took the club back to the top of the league.

Later in the decade, as the Spanish Civil War raged and dictator General Franco began his rise to power, the club became a rallying point for the Catalan people against the fascist dictator.

They would smuggle their flags into the old stadium and it was one of the few places they could converse in their native language, which the Spanish government had banned.

Only former star player Dutch legend Johan Cruyff has ever spent more time in charge of playing affairs at the club.

Jack was one of seven English managers, a list that also includes the late, much-loved Bobby Robson.

But perhaps the man who had the most influence on one of the side’s previous golden eras was Terry Venables, now a columnist with The Sun. They went from strength to strength under his stewardship from 1984, including winning their first league title for 11 years.

El Tel, as he was dubbed, signed big names including Brit big-hitters Steve Archibald and Mark Hughes.

His real coup, though, was taking Gary Lineker to the side’s iconic Camp Nou stadium. He paid almost £3million for the England goal-poacher, a fortune for a player in the Eighties.

Lineker went on to become yet another in the long line of UK names to make a name as a hero in the Barcelona camp, particulary after a hat-trick in a 3-2 win over arch rivals Real Madrid.

Messi leads the top of the Euro shortlist

A panel of fifty-three European journalists will vote to decide the top 10 and will vote again live on the day to determine the winner.

We at footballticketsbarcelona.com think it will go like this (but we are biased). Messi deserves the top spot after an incredible scoring season for the record books.

Xavi, Iniesta and Ronaldo all had unbelievable ventures as well. But La Pulga, Lionel Andrés Messi, is at the top of the Football World at the moment.

Barca’s Sanchez is known as ‘El Nino Maravilla’ – ‘The Wonder Boy’

Described as a winger, he has performed fantastically for both club and country, in the second half of the Serie A campaign he was as a withdrawn striker, playing off Antonio Di Natale, eventually scoring 12 goals and claiming six assists as Udinese secured a place in the Champions League.

The best performance was his four goals of a 7-0 thrashing of Palermo, at Palermo home ground. Even Messi has only scored four goals once in a game – that night against Arsenal in the Champions League in 2010.

Coach Francesco Guidolin explained why Sanchez‘s position changed “We took a gamble on Sanchez. He had always played wide, but I put forward the idea of playing him behind the striker. From a central position he can be even more decisive. Playing there he is more unpredictable, harder to keep tabs on.”

Guardiola is going to fight to bring our boy Cesc home

“This year Arsenal has agreed to negotiate and we are working on it,” Guardiola said.

“Barcelona has made an offer, Arsenal another and we have time until August 31 and we’ll try to reach an agreement,” added Guardiola.

“There is a sum of money in the strong box set aside for this signing but if it doesn’t work out it will be kept in the box for something else.

“We will fight to the end to try to get Cesc because we believe he will improve the team and the squad”.

Barca are also going to plan on selling striker Bojan Krkic to Roma, who have hired former Barca B coach Luis Enrique for the coming season, Zubizarreta added.

“As we understand it we are in the final stages of the negotiations to sign Sanchez and an agreement will happen very soon,” former Barca and Spain goalkeeper Zubizarreta said.

“But I would have said the same thing this time last week. As in a good film, it seems sometimes the end takes a little longer,” he added.

Piqué defends Xavi

Xavi claimed last week that Fabregas had told him he has been “suffering” because of his desire to rejoin the Barcelona FC.

“Barcelona and the players have always spoken with great respect,” Pique was quoted as saying.

“Any player suffers when there is so much talk about his future due to the uncertainty of not knowing where he will be playing. Saying that is not a lack of respect to anybody.”

“I know how the situation is, but I think we must leave Cesc in peace and let things run their course. The summer is very long, there has been a lot of talk and it doesn’t help at all,” he added.

Don’t compare Argentina with Barcelona, says Messi

Argentina have been slated by the media after drawing their opening two games before crushing Costa Rica 3-0 in their final group match, thanks largely to a great Messi performance.
Messi has been pretty much been spared the criticism, his commitment to the team set-up has been questioned in the past. Some member of the sporting press have even suggested he might walk away from the national side and concentrate on club soccer at Barcelona fc.
Dont listen to the overweight, never played a game, just comment on it members of the press, heres what the man Messi said.
“I’ve never been bothered by what they say in the press and I never will be,” Messi said. “I don’t think anyone likes it when they’re whistled and insulted. We’re the first ones who want to do things well.
“It’s a mistake to compare this team to Barcelona,” he added. “We’ve all been working together at Barcelona for a long time.”
“In the national team we’re trying to do something similar, keeping hold of the ball, dictating the rhythm of the game, but you can’t compare the two teams, either as a group or in terms of individuals.”
“Argentina need a trophy,” he said. “It’s a long time since we’ve won one.”

Transfer Rumor-Barcelona get Sanchez

It seems that Barcelona FC have agreed to buy Sanchez for £27 million fee according to a representative of the serie A club. Although this cant be confirmed at the moment and Sanchez is still in Argentina competing in the Copa America.

Manchester UTD and Manchester City have both been chasing him but Sanchez said that he would prefer a move to Spain, in particular our glories club Barcelona FC.

Quique Pina, who is responsible for any possible transfer, believes a deal is very close.
Pina said: “Both clubs have the utmost interest to finalise the transfer.

“The signing will be £27m plus variables – he prefers to play in Spain.”

LET HIM COME HOME WENGER!

After the long drawn out affair of Fabregas moving to Barca, a new situation has arisen which might cause more problems.
Fabregas left Barca when he was 16 in 2003 and has wanted to come home for some time now according to Xavi, who said, “I spoke to Cesc in Ibiza and he said he was suffering, because he really wants to come,” Xavi said.
“It’s what he most wants, he’s done everything he can to come and wants Arsenal to let him go.”
This has caused Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger to sink his claws in deeper to his captin and he also said this about Xavi.

“I believe a mutual respect between the clubs should stop this kind of comment,” Wenger told the Guardian newspaper.
“It is very disrespectful and it is not the first time that Xavi has been disrespectful to Arsenal Football Club” Wenger said.
“What is important is that Cesc Fabregas is contracted to Arsenal Football Club. That is a fact. Arsenal want to keep him.”
My point of view and im from North london so i have some affection for Wenger but an unhappy player is never going to play his best let alone lead his team.LET HIM COME HOME Wenger!

Pep Guardiola has admitted the champions are finding it hard to complete deals for new players.

Barca has tried three times to re-sign Cesc Fabregas from Arsenal, and their attempts at Alexis Sanchez are also becoming a drawn-out affair.

Pep Guardiola said on Catalunya Radio: “Now the situation about moves for reinforcements is very complicated, but I’m hopeful it will become clear in the next few days.

“I’m always optimistic.”

The addition of these two players would be excellent news for FC Barcelona. Cesc will complement one, if not the best, midfield in the world (Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets), while Sanchez would bring young talent to the attacking cast around Lionel Messi.
