Classic goal : Iniesta against Chelsea – 08/09 Champions League

Iniesta scores a goal against Chelsea in Champions League 2009

Do you remember that day of Spring 2009? It was the second leg of the Champions League semi-final at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea and FC Barcelona. The two teams had a scoreless first leg (0-0) at Camp Nou just two weeks before.

Chelsea took the lead in the first half with a stunner from Essien (1-0, min 9). With this lead, the London team was going through the final.

Still at 1-0 entering extra time, FC Barcelona had only one last chance. And Iniesta appeared (1-1, min 93), sending Pep Guardiola‘s team to the Champions League final in Roma…

Surely Chelsea fans also remember this match for the controversy in the very final minutes, and rightly so… Norwegian referee Ovredo could (should?) have given a penalty for the blues… an obvious hand ball at the 96th minute.
