Iniesta scores a goal against Chelsea in Champions League 2009

Classic goal : Iniesta against Chelsea – 08/09 Champions League

Pinterest
Do you remember that day of Spring 2009? It was the second leg of the Champions League semi-final at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea and FC Barcelona. The 2 teams had a scoreless first leg (0-0) at the Camp Nou just 2 weeks before.

Chelsea took the lead in the first half with a stunner from Obi Essien (1-0, min 9). With this lead, and if without coneciding a goal, the British team was going throught the Chmpions League final. They then “parked the bus” in front of their own goal.

Still at 1-0 entering extra time, FC Barcelona had only one last chance. And Iniesta appeared (1-1, min 93) sending Pep Guardiola‘s team to the Champions League final in Roma…

Watch the video of Iniesta’s goal

Surely Chelsea fans also remember this match for the controversy in the very final minutes, and rightly so… Norwegian referee Ovredo could (should?) have given a penalty for the blues… an obvious hand ball at the 96 minute.

With their win 1-4 at the Sanchez Pizjuan against Sevilla, FC Barcelona regained the leadership in La Liga, only one week after losing at home against Valencia (2-3) and leaving the top of the table to Atletico Madrid.

Sevilla scored an early goal, and the whole of Catalunya started to think of the worse. Alexis scored the equalizer in offside position, and then Leo Messi took over, scoring 2 stunning goals. La Pulga left no doubt about his physical condition and talent, leading the team when it was most needed. Fabregas scored the 4th goal for FC Barcelona.

The Blaugrana are tied in points (57) with Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, who respectively won against Villareal (4-2) and lost at Almería (2-0).

Pedro and Tello pose with 2 FC Barcelona members

Pinterest
After his impressive hat-trick in 8 minutes against Getafe, Pedro kept the ball and a few pictures have surfaced online from FC Barcelona’s locker room.

Tello posted a photo on social networks with Pedro Rodriguez and the hat-trick ball. The unexpected surprise was, quite obviously, behind Tello.

Not the bald-headed guy…

Piqué, via his twitter account, commented: “Who do you think has his ass in the photo @ctello91 There are four options: Aureli Altimira, Alex Song, @MarcBartra91 or Pepe Costa”

Pedro also took the pose with Andrés Iniesta, in more decent fashion.

FC Barcelona, with 46 points, remain leader in La Liga for the 55th consecutive week (La Liga record). They beat Getafe 2-5 at the Coliseum in Madrid, with a hat-trick from Pedro, and 2 goals from Cesc Fabregas.

Atletico Madrid have the exact same number of point, and are only second by goal average, after beating Levante 3-2 at Vicente Calderon, including 2 goals from… Diego Costa of course.

Real Madrid won at Valencia CF (2-3) with goals from Di Maria, Cristiano Ronaldo and Jesé. They are still 3rd in the Liga, 5 points behind FC Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.
Carlo Ancelotti, Real Madrid head coach : Right now, Barça and Atletico are the clear favourites for la Liga.

At the bottom of the table, things are getting ugly for Betis Seville, with only 10 points (out of 51) to count for. A bit of a surprise after 2 good previous la Liga runs.
